Lovely Sevilla

My relationship with Sevilla started 10 years ago, as did Jonathan’s. We were both here, but separately — he was studying abroad following his Fathers passing and I was on a European adventure with my best girls.  At 21 years of age, this place meant something completely different to both of us.  I was in an entirely opposite stage in my life.  This time around, I’d pass by a familiar place I’d been with the girls and chuckle, telling Jon stories of our wilder, more fearless days in this city.
Still, Sevilla is just as beautiful now as I remember it back then- a bustling city with beautiful people and and excellent food and wine.  There was so many amazing buildings and parks!  Horse and carriages, Spanish guitarists and flamenco dancers filled the cobblestone streets.  The sounds of this city were both relaxing and stimulating all at once.

It was emotional and liberating for Jonathan to be back here.  We visited a lot of places that made an impact on him so long ago.  Watching him revisit these places, the feelings it provoked and the heaviness of that time in his life was hard.  It’s hard seeing the man you love go through difficult transitions, but I know that he is happier now than he’s ever been.  He left some darkness in Spain and let go of a lot.  This is the city that changed his life.

Aside from the heavier things, we also had some very good tapas and Spanish wine.  Our favorite restaurant in Sevilla was a place named Mariatrifulca.  Close to our Airbnb (which by the way had the most amazing terrace view), we frequented this spot for a quick tapa and glass of wine or a Cruzcampo.  We also loved Cien Montaditos, a little sandwich shop that served only mini sandwiches for 1 euro each. There were 100 different sandwiches to choose from.  Those who know me can imagine how my indecisiveness played out with all of these choices and an all Spanish menu at that!

This leg of our journey was quite relaxing, our apartment was comfortable with such  a wonderful view of the river and city, we didn’t want to leave! We slept in, cooked breakfast every morning and ate on our balcony.  We walked all day and stayed out for late night dinners, like the Spanish do.  It was truly amazing, we were so sad to leave.  But I could already hear Italy calling me home, Cinque Terre-we are on our way to you!
